ScreenJourney Privacy Policy

Effective September 5, 2026

In short: ScreenJourney records app usage and periodically captures your screen only after you explicitly start capture and approve Android's screen-capture prompt. Most analysis stays on your device. Cloud AI and Google Drive backup are optional and off by default.

Data ScreenJourney processes

Account: your email address and Firebase user identifier when you sign in with Google.
App activity: foreground app, session times, durations, and app-switch events after Usage Access is granted and capture is started.
Screen content: periodic screenshots, thumbnails, blurred variants, and text extracted from screenshots using on-device OCR. Screen content can incidentally contain sensitive or personal information visible on your screen.
Derived information: categories, titles, topics, activity modes, sensitivity indicators, and usage insights.
User content and settings: notes, tags, goals, per-app choices, retention settings, consent choices, and optional app-information correction reports.
Diagnostics and purchases: limited app-interaction analytics, crash and diagnostic information, and subscription or purchase status used to operate and improve ScreenJourney.

Why we process data

We process this information only to provide the features you request, including activity tracking, the private timeline, optional backup, optional Cloud AI, account authentication, purchase management, security, troubleshooting, and improvement of app reliability. We do not sell personal or sensitive data, and ScreenJourney does not use it for advertising.

On-device processing and sensitive content

OCR, face detection, sensitive-content detection, blurring, offline categorization, search, forecasts, and most analytics run on your device. Full-resolution screenshots, thumbnails, and blurred image files are kept in app-private storage and are not included in Google Drive backup. ScreenJourney skips protected or black frames. Images detected as sensitive are blurred for display and excluded from Cloud AI and Drive backup.

Optional Cloud AI

If you explicitly enable Cloud AI, ScreenJourney may send extracted text and related activity metadata to a Firebase Functions proxy operated for ScreenJourney, which calls Google Gemini. When text is insufficient, a smaller redacted image may be sent; the original image is never sent. Frames flagged as sensitive are never sent. The proxy does not retain screenshot content, OCR text, coach messages, or Gemini output; it retains only rotating usage counters associated with your Firebase user ID.

Optional Google Drive backup

If you enable Drive backup and grant the limited drive.appdata permission, ScreenJourney stores one encrypted backup in your private Google Drive app-data folder. It contains timeline records, permitted OCR text, derived labels, notes, tags, and per-app settings. It does not contain screenshot image files or records flagged as sensitive. The backup is encrypted with AES-256-GCM using a recovery key controlled by you, is overwritten by later backups, and can be deleted in Settings.

Analytics, crash reporting, and purchases

ScreenJourney uses Firebase Analytics to record a limited set of capture-flow events, such as capture start, end, duration, and failure. These events do not include screenshots, OCR text, app package names, titles, notes, or keywords. Firebase Analytics retains this information according to the retention period configured for the service, currently 14 months. Release builds use Firebase Crashlytics to collect crash reports and diagnostics such as stack traces, device model, operating-system version, and SDK-generated breadcrumbs; Crashlytics generally retains reports for approximately 90 days.

ScreenJourney uses Google Play Billing and RevenueCat to process subscriptions and one-time purchases, validate transactions, and determine Pro entitlement status. These services may process product identifiers, purchase tokens, transaction status, and device or account identifiers needed for purchase management and fraud prevention. ScreenJourney does not receive or store your full payment-card details.

Storage, security, and retention

The local timeline database is encrypted with SQLCipher using an Android Keystore-protected key.
On-device screenshot, thumbnail, and blurred-image files are app-private but are not separately encrypted at rest.
Full screenshots are normally pruned after approximately 72 hours or when the selected storage budget is reached. OCR is shortened after 30 days, and timeline screenshot rows follow your selected retention setting.
Data sent to Google services is encrypted in transit.
Firebase Authentication account information is retained until account deletion. Purchase records, analytics, and crash reports are retained under Google and RevenueCat's applicable retention requirements.

App feedback retained without a direct identifier

If you report incorrect app information, ScreenJourney stores the package name, correction type, optional note, and a one-way hash derived from the package name and your Firebase user ID. The raw user ID and email are not stored in that record. These pseudonymous reports are retained as aggregate catalog-quality signals and are not removed by account deletion because they cannot be linked back to your identity from the stored record.

Service providers

ScreenJourney uses Google as a service provider for Google Play Services and Billing, Firebase Authentication, Firebase App Check, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions, Firebase Analytics, Firebase Crashlytics, the Gemini API, and optional Google Drive backup. ScreenJourney also uses RevenueCat for purchase validation, subscription management, and Pro entitlement status. These providers may process data in countries outside your own under their applicable privacy, security, and data-transfer terms.

Your choices and deletion

You can stop capture, disable Cloud AI, disable or delete Drive backup, export your data, clear screenshot images, delete all local data, or delete your account and cloud data from Settings. Account deletion removes the Firebase account and associated AI usage counters and erases local app data on that device. A Drive backup must be deleted separately. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to processing of your personal data, and to withdraw consent. To make a request, use the controls in the app or contact us below. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that occurred before withdrawal.

Children

ScreenJourney is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
